Discover the Delight of Light Roast Coffee

The Unique Flavor Profile

Light roast coffee is typically for people who like the fruity and floral acidity (up front flavor) of specialty coffees. The lighter roast (less time and temperature applied to the bean) bring out the genetics of the bean and terrior of the region/soil/weather found in the growing environment. This is my favorite kind of roast!

The Health Benefits

Not only are lighter roasts delicious, but they also offers several health benefits. Studies suggest that light roasts have higher levels of antioxidants compared to their darker counterparts. Antioxidants can help protect your cells from damage and reduce the risk of diseases. Light roasts also have slightly more caffeine than darker roasted coffees, which is most definitely a benefit!

How to Brew

To highlight its unique flavors, use a brewing method that offers control over water temperature and extraction time, like a pour-over (Chemex, Hario V60, Kalita) . A water temperature of around 195-205°F is ideal for extracting the bright notes of light roasts.

Light roasts tend to be harder to extract, so you'll need to experiment with the coffee-to-water ratio and temperature (higher temps will extract more) to dial in your brew. If you don't have ability to alter your temperature, then the only option is to change coffee-to-water ratio (or grind size).
